Professional Articles: Reflection

During class, I read the article, "Banning Student Containers" by Alan November.  Before reading the article, I had no idea what a container is, a container is a basic tool that a student can use such as blogs, ipods, IM, YouTube, etc.  This article stresses the need for teacher and schools alike to allow students to use these containers in positive way during the school day.  I think that this is a fantastic idea!  By allowing students to use these containers we are allowing technology into the classroom.  As  a teacher I would be providing not only the students with an opportunity to learn, but I would also be allowing myself the opportunity to learn from my students.  Teachers do need to monitor the use of these containers just as they would with any project that students were completing, but by allowing students to complete projects with containers we are allowing a catalyst to learning into our classroom.  These containers allow students to become life-long learners in a globally connected economy!
